What do you think?

  • What might influence patients’ overall rating of their care provider?
  • How do your experiences with your care provider compare to those reported by other Albertans?

Understanding “overall rating of primary care provider”

In email surveys conducted between October 2018 and March 2023, Health Quality Alberta asked patients who recently visited their primary care provider:

  • Using any number from 0 to 10, where 0 is the worst provider possible and 10 is the best provider possible, what number would you use to rate your care provider?

Patients could choose a number from 0 to 10.

Considerations when viewing the results

A patient’s overall rating of a care provider is one of the best ways to understand a summary of the patient’s experience related to multiple aspects of care. Reviewing the results of this survey question in combination with the other questions helps to provide insights into what is shaping patients’ overall experience with care from their primary care provider.

  • How does the overall rating of the provider compare to the other survey results?
  • To help understand overall rating of provider, consider looking at other patient experience survey results for context. What factors may be influencing how patients rate their provider?
